even though i set firefox to remeber passwords for sites through the Tools feature, i still cannot get firefox to remeber passwords for any sites. now what?

firefox has always stored passwords. a week or so ago the passwords disappeared and the Remember button no longer works. all the password feature using the tools function are double checked and properly set. firefox Remember button still does not work
