I had considered moving away from Internet Explorer and going to Firefox as our default browser at the company that I am IT administrator for. So I setup a test user configuring Firefox the way I wanted it and then re-configuring IE to effectively disable it. However a disturbing event has me considering otherwise. My test user received an update for Firefox and the update pulled all the configuration info from IE instead of preserving the existing Firefox setup. So in essence it disabled FireFox as well. I really don't want to turn off updates but I definitely do NOT want to go around and re-configure each of my 140 machines every time Firefox does an update. We also run web applications that must have and relys on an older version of java. While I know the latest version is preferred these apps simply do not work with them. Firefox in it's infinite wisdom during an update will disable my older version of java breaking my applications. I like FireFox but I simply do not have the time to micro-manage this piece of software. It should preserve any and all settings from the original version install. Is there a way to configure Firefox to do what I want it to do during an update in stead of what it wants to do. I thought software was supposed to make our life easier not bogg my support day down running around fixing FireFox fubars. If Firefox wants to be an alternative to IE then it needs to be a step better. The reason I want to move from IE is that I simply do not have time to deal with daily issues because of updates. If Firefox is an alternate browser why is it relying on IE to get it's settings.

Hi there rbowman, I can understand how concerning this is. It sounds like you set up Firefox on one or a couple of computers. It also sounds like you went with the regular version of Firefox. When you first set up Firefox it ask if you would like to pull settings, history, etcetera. I believe it does this after an update too. At lest in the regular one. So the employee must of said yes I want all my stuff from IE, and we know how that worked out. Firefox makes a version for the IT admin. It is called Firefox extended support. This lets you manage settings and all of that good stuff that an admin would have to do without going computer to computer. I would recommend you try this. Hope it goes better this time.

thanks Firefoxbob2...... This sounds like it may be the solution I need...... I am downloading it currently and will investigate setting it up on a few test users.
