Emails retrieved in search or filter displaying as garbled HTML?

When emails come into my inbox, they appear fine even as HTML. However, whenever I retrieve emails via the search bar or the Quick Filter bar, they appear as illegible garbled text. I have tried adjusting the display by going to View > Message Body as > Original HTML/Simple HTML/Plain text and none of the options correct it. How can I fix this?

try right clicking the folder, selecting properties and then repair. That will fix any issues with the index. It only updates the index not mail data.
