I unintentionally and unwittingly installed express files. I have tried to get rid of it but the only avenue I have left is to erase firefox. which will wipe out my bookmarks which I use constantly.

if you want to reinstall your Firefox then there is no problem with bookmarks. You can store them to others computer and get them back

Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer
