As said above: Firefox is not being seen as an active installed app by its own app store and wants me to install it on iPad Air 2, iOS 15.8.7.

I'm guessing when you say "by its own app store" you are referring to the Firefox Extensions hosted at https://addons.mozilla.org

The mobile version of Firefox for iOS/iPadOS is not using the same Gecko engine as Android Firefox and (desktop) Firefox does as you can think Apple's restrictions on what browser engine can be used on iOS/iPadOS. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/add-ons-firefox-ios

Extensions at https://addons.mozilla.org are only available for Android Firefox and desktop Firefox (for Windows, macOS, and Linux).
