On the new tab page, there is an option to dismiss links to frequent site, which will make them no longer show up on the new tab page. However, I cannot find any option to reverse this. How do I restore which pages show up on the new tab page to default, before I dismissed any?

You can restore all the "dismissed" sites by going to about:config in the address bar, deleting browser.newtabpage.blocked, then restarting the browser. You cannot easily restore individual sites since they are stored in such a way that they are difficult to identify but the most recently blocked site will be at the end of the list.
