using groups from the Linux server

Thunderbird is the client and Linux running Exim is the server. All the users on the Linux server have been assigned to all the groups that they all belong to, so I'd like to have (for lack of a better word) a mailing list of all employees, another of all sales, another of all admins, one for sales+support, etc.

I see that I can create .csv files with all the files ... create 7 different mailing lists or address books and update them every time an employee is added or deleted ... but then, it seems, that I have to manually upload those lists on every email client.

Is there a function or add-on that would just read the .csv files as address books in real time, as needed?

Windows active directory and Samba both have a ldap component. Thunderbird supports ldap address books. Otherwise you will need to install an ldap server on your network to server address lists from.
