I constantly get the message, "mozilla not responding", and it just sits there. Should I uninstall, download, and reinstall? Wil existing folders be saved?

I constantly get the message, "Mozilla not responding", and it just sits there. It will finally resolve itself, but this frequently happens, which makes going through my emails a very long and frustrating process. Should I uninstall Mozilla Thunderbird and then reinstall it? I am currently using Mozilla 52.3.0 with Windows 10.1. If I uninstall Mozilla and then reinstall it, will I retain my folders and emails?
