I have created several archives boxes. Thunderbird created 2017 box. When I click on "Archives" it does not give me the option of which archives box to use, it puts everything in 2017. How can I designate a particular box?

You can configure some archiving options in the Message Archives section under Account settings > Copies & Folders. See the Archived Messages article for more info. If that doesn’t suffice, an add-on such as Awesome Auto Archive can be of help, though I'm not sure if that’s still supported but if not, other ones may be available there.
