How do I empty a stuffed inbox, in one account only? Is there a delets all function?
I have two accounts, gmail which I use daily, and a microsoft account which I use rarely. The microsoft account is full of assorted crap (my fault) and I just want to "delete all" without having to select each one. Surely that's possible?

I'm not sure why Wayne mentioned the Unified folders view. As you're not using this view, just select the offending Inbox.
Perhaps you need to shift the focus. Select the offending Inbox, then select a message in it, then do the ctrl+a (or Edit|Select|All). I use Linux too and both work for me. Once you have selected all, the del button will dispose of them, though shift+del will remove them immediately without sending them to Trash.

Sure.
Assuming you are using Unified Inbox, i.e. a single folder where email from all the accounts are listed ...
click the arrow to the left of the Inbox to expand the account names
click on the MS account name below Inbox
do Edit | Select | All (or ctrl+A as you can see in the menu)
shift+delete
Or... get rid of the MS account :)
Hi Wayne, thanks for that. Two points, I'm not using a unified mailbox, but more importantly, I should have mentioned that I'm working in linux, through thunderbird mail, and it doesn't give me any delete options at all (those options are greyed out) sorry I missed that bit of the problem description.

Perfect! thanks very much. I had just failed to select an actual email before trying to delete.
