Just in the last few days, all of a sudden Tbird has been on a go slow. It works fine for several seconds and then stops for a few seconds, usually when I am typing an email, but other times as well; for instance, clicking on something just doesn't work until it wakes up again. Any ideas?

Incidentally, this does not happen in any other prog, and it hasn't happened while I've been typing this out.

Thanks, Peter

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If that did not help:

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Thanks, Wayne. I did what you suggested and needed to go no further than the add ons. I haven't yet discovered which one was causing the trouble but will do so when I get a bit more spare time. Cheers, Pete
