Get Messages Not bringing in e-mails with attachments without closing and reopening Thunderbird program

In Thunderbird when Thunder program is left running and Get Messages is selected and also with Account Settings:Server Settings check box put in front of: set to check for messages every 1 minutes...messages with attachments are not coming through. Messages without attachments come through just fine within about 1 minute of the sender sending the message. The only thing that works to get messages with attachments is to close and reopen the Thunderbird program. Any ideas on how to fix this?

p[erhaps use a checking frequency more in keeping with reality. 1 Minute is not sufficient time for the mail get to complete. Try 5 minutes.

If you want mail as soon as it arrives, get a provider that uses Push on their IMAP account and they will push new mail out. Google does this.
