change'choose helper application' default win7; top answer too vague

m$7 chooses windows media default and c/n get it to open pdf files w/o hassle. I want to put Adobe acro XI on list and as default for 'choose helper application'. Top question answer [from your search] sounds quite simple but an hour of struggling and no luck! I assume m$ 7 wants to make it as difficult as possible to use anybody else's application. They have succeded,,,,, even in firefox they come up as unchangeable default and I c/n even add any one else to list......I need step by step dummy directions...not just go to preferences.... but,. how to find preferences......Mahalo!

Adobe help center didn't help either.........they said just open app and it will appear as temp default.

Current Firefox versions have enabled a built-in PDF Viewer that doesn't have all features that other PDF readers like the Adobe Reader have or may not function properly otherwise.

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use another application like the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".

You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the about:config page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.

You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to use a PDF plugin like the Adobe Reader.
