Hello. So I got a major problem with firefox, this happened for the 2nd time now and the first time I had to reinstall my windows anyway, which fixed it.

I don't know why I get this, but here's my problem : Firefox worked fine with no problems whatsoever until after a few days ago. Turned off my laptop like normal, but when I turned it back on and started firefox the following issues happen all at the same time :

1. Items in firefox (bookmarks, history, options, everything) stops getting highlighted. It still shows additional options when I hover over them, but they also do not get highlighted nor can I select anything.

2. "typing" fields like in google or even the URL bar also became like that, I can't write anything. Clicking on the field does not show the blinking " I " , in fact it doesn't even seem to register as a typing field.

3. New tabs opened do not show up and I can't open more than 1 new tab. So when I click to close firefox, it asks me if I want to close multiple (2) tabs.

All of this happens as soon as I press the "firefox" button in the top left corner. Using windows 7. Also, before the first time this happened, I was using firefox for a good 1.5 year without any issues, problem also happened overnight.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Try a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling a fresh copy of Firefox.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
