I have to zoom in my screen to get Firefox to expand horizontally to it's former area. Haven't needed to do this before

The screen has shrunk

If you mean the content of the pages themselves, if have either of these extensions, the default zoom level may be set too small.

You could access your extensions list and respective Options dialogs here:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Add-ons > Extensions category

If you mean the Firefox window, can you describe what's happening in more detail?
