I installed FireFox 5 and am getting Winlogin.exe "An application has failed to start because mozsqlite3.dll was not found" on bootup. If I remove (uninstall FF5) i dont have the issue on boot. Only when the software exists. FF5 seems to run ok.

I have uninstalled FF5 for the time being. Previously I was using FF3.

I am beginning to wonder if this is a problem with users upgrading direct from some earlier versions to Firefox 5. See my post in i can't open firefox. when i double click on the icon, there is a message that says: the procedure entry point squlite3_db_status could not be located in the dynamic link library mozsqlite3.dll.

I am hoping a clean install of firefox 5 will solve the problem.

I by the way have firefox 3.6 and 5 installed on the same computers with no problems, but then I am using separate profiles and directories, and so would not expect a conflict from any leftover files.

Thanks. I did see the post. I did a clean install by uninstalling FF5 and removing the Mozilla dir in C:\Program Files. That did not solve the issue. Popup comes up on reboots. I am not sure why winlogin.exe is complaining though. I did not start FF5 (and it does start just fine when I do open it).

After I deinstalled FF5 I checked to see if I have the mozsqlite3.dll on the machine and I did not which makes sense. I did not check to see if its there when I had FF5 installed. I suspect an issue registering the DLL on the install.

FF5 is just too new. Need to wait for a few dot releases. For now I will use Chrome or reinstall FF3.

Sorry I do not know anything about the details of this issue. mozsqlite3.dll may store preferences or something. I have no idea why winlogin.exe is involved but surmise it may relate to Firefox being the default browser.

I have checked my machine and fx 3.6 does not use this .dll fx4 to 7 do use it.

Firefox 5 itself could be considered a dot release of Firefox 4. I am using 6.0a2 right now, they have changed to a rapid release cycle with four concurrent channels.

If the result is only an error message on login it should not prevent Firefox being used, and hopefully has only a minor impact on other use of the computer, but it should not happen. I have XP and do not recall this problem occurring.

Maybe someone else can throw light on this, or sees the same or a similar problem.
