Sync doesn't work

more options

I recently got set up to use Firefox instead of Chrome. I use a computer at work and at home. I have sync settings set up the way I want but it doesn't seem to work. For instance, when I deleted an add-on at work, I would expect that add-on to be gone from my browser at home, but that isn't the case. I also have changed settings to allow a pop-up from my company's internal website. But at home that change in the settings isn't reflected. Basically I have two versions of Firefox, one at home and one at work. Anytime I want them to match up I have to do it manually. The only exception is bookmarks, they seem to sync properly.

To be honest, I can't remember what categories sync by default, but you should be able to control that using the settings mentioned in this article: How do I choose what information to sync on Firefox?

It does not look like permissions (pop-up, camera, cookie, etc. permissions) are a category supported by Sync.

You can open about:sync-log via the location bar to see if recent Sync logs are available. You can upload the file to a website like Pastesite if you can't post the content of the file in a reply.

Thank you for your help. 'Settings' is one of the options that can sync. Since the pop up block exceptions are managed in the Settings my assumption would be that they would sync. I have had other sync problems with other settings as well

Thank you for your help. I'm not certain what you are suggesting I do. I did look at the sync log that you mentioned. There were 3 entries and they all started with 'error-sync...'

"Settings" really means "preferences", specifically, the ones which you see when you apply this filter:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future. Since we are just viewing and not editing, I feel comfortable mentioning it.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste services.sync.prefs. and pause while the list is filtered

Firefox will list numerous preferences in the format:

services.sync.prefs. + actual preference name

so, for example, if you did not want your current theme on one installation of Firefox -- stored in extensions.activeThemeID -- to replicate to other installations of Firefox, you could prevent that this way:

(3) Double-click the services.sync.prefs.sync.extensions.activeThemeID preference to switch the value from true to false

Site permissions are not stored in preferences.
