I am currently trying to configure a very old network switch that requires Java. I have tried using the Firefox ESR (Extended Support Release) but i cannot seem to find or get the java plugin installed. I also tried downloading and installing firefox version 51.

What could i do to resolve this issue? I also tried using internet explorer but my computer refuses to install internet explorer because "it is already installed" even though it is not.

The Firefox 52 ESR did support Java, but you would need to find the Java Plugin from some old version of Java from Oracle.

The java plugin was not a part of Firefox.

Firefox 52 ESR was the last to still allow (NPAPI) Plugins like Java to run in Firefox. Note for Windows you needed the 32-bit version as the 64-bit (Win64) only allowed the Flash Player and Silverlight (NPAPI) Plugins to run. From 52.0 Release and on the Flash Player Plugin was allowed to run until more recent https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-support-adobe-flash

Make sure you are not using the same Profile with old versions like Firefox 52 and with current Releases like 109.0.x

You could try the portable Firefox 52.9.0 ESR and see if it uses the Java Plugin (NPAPI) as the portable version is self contained and can even run off a usb flash drive and will not touch your Firefox install or Profiles on Windows. The portable edition is the official builds packaged with a custom launcher. https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox-portable-legacy-52
