I have to restart the browser several times a day, to the point where the bloody thing is barely usable.

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What is/are the exact error message(s) ?
Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}
A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?
Thing is, I never know when the issue may arise. It can work fine for hours before it will freeze.
