I don't know what's going on, but Firefox since 57 and 58 is unchecking "remember logins and passwords" options. I'm not running any Trend software as mentioned on another similar topic. I have Avast AV only (with VPN). I tried the Firefox refresh option too, no fix.

This is possibly a problem with the RoboForm Password Manager extension if you use this software.

The behavior described by you is by design in Chrome and Firefox.
A user can disable RoboForm extension to enable the built-in password manager in the browser.
The user is intended to use either at a time, not both.
