dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1139452

I want to be able to bookmark genealogy sources from personal, work, and library computers, and then bring them ALL together into Firefox bookmarks on my HOME computer. When using work, friends, or library computers (any computer other than my own, actually). I would like to "login" to a cloud based bookmarking system, update ONE set of permanent bookmarks there with NEW links, and then, finally, merge (or SYNC) that online set to my permanent Firefox bookmarks on my HOME computer system. Can anyone out there suggest a CLOUD BASED system capable of handling 1000s of bookmarks in nested folders, just like Firefox, which I could then IMPORT into FIREFOX on my HOME computer each time updates are added, thus maintaining the same folder structure???

In other words, i need a way to get ALL links bookmarked on systems I use, but do NOT own, merged into the ONE primary set on my HOME computer. Or in the alternative, some means to store ALL bookmarks in ONE place that can be accessed from ANY computer I sit down to work at, whether I own that computer or not. I would rather manage ONLY ONE SET of bookmarks than to be constantly wasting time SYNCing or MERGING multiple sets of bookmarks into a single set.

Not really a Firefox support issue, as Mozilla doesn't offer anything even close to a feature like that.

Xmarks is the only service that I know of where that can be done. But you should check with Xmarks support to make sure it isn;t going to synchronize all bookmarks on the connected devices, too. IOW, Xmarks can be set to "upload" bookmarks only, on devices that are set as such; and not "download" bookmarks from the Xmarks server.

The other thing that comes to mind is that if all devices run Windows, you could use Firefox Portable on a USB stick and use that version of Firefox on all devices when you doing genealogy work. Then just plugin your USB stick into the computer you want to use and use your own Firefox browser on that USB stick; your own collection of bookmarks and other Firefox user data, completely separate from all other web browsers on any of the PC's that you use. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable And 'Portable' has their own support fora here: http://portableapps.com/forums/support/firefox_portable
