I back up my computer automatically, on folder/file change, at 10:00pm every day, and every Monday, to three separate external drives, all stored off-site I use APBackup and EaseUs Todo. Therefore I am covered for fire, (Never happened) theft, (Never happened) drive failure (Happened about ten times), and the most frequent failure - file corruption.

How do I safeguard my Bookmarks for these eventualities?

If you check your backups, do they already contain a folder named bookmarkbackups? (This would originate from your profile folder. See: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data)

Firefox should be creating a compressed backup of your bookmarks in that folder no later than 24 hours after they change. By backing up this folder, you'll have several versions of your bookmarks to go back to in case there is a problem.

Another backup method that might be a good supplemental approach is to create an HTML export file at shutdown in a location that you're backing up. To set that up:

(A) In a new Firefox tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button promising to be careful.

(B) In the search box above the list, type or paste book and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML preference to switch it from false to true

(D) Select and copy the following preference name:

browser.bookmarks.file

(E) Right-click any preference, then choose New > String. In the dialog asking for the preference name, paste browser.bookmarks.file and click OK. Another dialog will appear.

(F) Leaving that tab open, launch a file browser window (however you do that on Linux), and navigate to the folder on your computer where you want to save your bookmarks file. Copy the full path to that location.

(G) Back in Firefox, paste into the dialog asking for the path. At the end, after the last \, type the actual file name you want to use, such as bookback.html and click OK. The new preference should show up in alphabetical order in the list.

The next time you exit Firefox, within about 15 seconds that new file should appear.

These programs create backups of the Firefox profiles just in case. You could set the programs up to store the backups on other drives.

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.
