sometimes when i click on an article on the daily kos site an update notice pops up with a firefox logo that looks like yours.after the first time ,my windows defender caught it and i also realized that i know how you apply your updates.i am just reaching out because it is still popping up every now and again when i am on the site.i assumed that you guys might like to know and do something about it.

Thank you for mentioning the site. Various people are trying to track down which ad network (or other mechanism) is causing those fake patch tabs to open, and this should help with the investigation.

Not sure whether this is a possible vector, but I noticed next to your post in the Question Details section that the "More System Details" lists two versions of Flash:

  • Flash 11
  • Flash 22

For your security, I suggest removing Flash 11. The officially recommended method is to use Adobe's uninstaller/cleaner and then reinstall Flash from scratch.

Oh it is known about as I made a thread about it at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/forums/contributors/712056 in which it has grown. I made the thread so as to keep track of the sites reported up to and since but also to try and get attention and discussion going finally.

Not all Windows users are getting this fake urgent updates page however if they get it once you may have a chance of getting it again perhaps due to cookies.
