My home computer is a Dell 7100 XPS running Windows 10 and two days ago the "Comments" section of all MSN.com articles is missing. However, I can see the "Comments" section on my Google Nexus cell phone and when I use a different browser (e.g. Google Chrome) on my home computer, so the problem is Firefox. Hmm?

MSN appears to use Facebook for comments. If you are using Firefox's Private Browsing mode, check for a "shield" icon to the left of the address in the address bar. This article describe how to make an exception to the Tracking Protection feature to allow embedded FB content in other sites' pages: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

Was that it?

The Question Details > More System Details panel next to your post shows Firefox found four versions of the Flash plugin:

  • Shockwave Flash 12.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 16.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 15.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0

This is likely to cause some compatibility problems with sites that prefer or require a newer version.

I'm not sure how you ended up with so many, since the Flash installer should clean out old versions, but whatever the reason, Adobe has a dedicated uninstaller to get clean and then you can reinstall the current version.

Hi jscher2000,

Thank you for taking the time to respond to me, but unfortunately none of the suggestions resolved my issue. 1) Apparently I don't have Private Browsing Mode since I don't have a shield to the left of the address bar - I see a key and a lower case "i". I also stumbled around and found a section on blocked sites and there was nothing in the list. 2) I ran the Adobe Shockwave uninstaller and I have the latest version (21) active. I looked at my Firefox plugins and even though the other Shockwave versions are displayed, they are not active.

I verified the "Comments" section of MSN.com articles is still not displaying in Firefox, but it does display, with the same article, in Google Chrome. Hmm?

Change privacy setting to accept always 3td party cookies. That seemed the privacy setting that stopped me from posting comments to news sites that have Facebook plugin.

Hi netemouse, thank you for responding. I understand what you're saying, but when I select "Options" from the Firefox tool bar, and review the "Privacy" and "Security" sections I don't see anything talking about "3rd party cookies". Hmm?

Hi Wizeone, you can check here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options

In the left column, click Privacy. If the selector in the page says "Firefox will: Remember history" change that to "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history". That will reveal the detailed privacy settings.

For cookies:

[X] Accept cookies from sites Accept third party cookies: Always / From Visited Keep until: they expire / I close Firefox

Hi jscher2000, I can now see the privacy settings that netemouse was trying to point me to, thanks to your detailed instructions. Unfortunately, my settings are the same as what you prescribed. I even clicked on the "Exceptions" link and there were no exceptions listed.

I tested an article on MSN.com. I have to have private browsing off and have always accept 3rd party cookies to see the comment area with the word "post" to leave a comment.

If I have private browsing on, and sign into MSN, I do not even see the comment area.

If I do not have accept always 3rd party cookies, and sign into MSN, I see the comment area but instead of Post, it still says Log on to Post.

Do you use Facebook on this computer? If so, does it work normally?

On Windows 10, one issue that sometimes arises as a surprise is the parental control feature Microsoft Family Safety. More for users upgrading from older versions of Windows than new installs, since it seems easy to accidentally get added to a family in that process. To test by turning it off, see: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wi.../turn-off-microsoft-family-settings

Seems I forgot to mention something earlier:

When you have a problem with one particular site that previously worked normally, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
