After update 40 of Firefox, I realized that every time I opened Firefox, the first run page appears, I am asked if Firefox should be the default browser and some other pages open to show that some addons have been successive installed. Later, privacy and reading mode pop ups appear as well. I have set all these preferences, but they never save. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, but no change. Please help.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-fix-preferences-wont-save Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

Thanks for the response. I don't have such software installed on my laptop. I think the preferences not saving is mainly due to the resetting of FF and opening up first run every time it starts. Probably the preferences got saved, but because it is first run, it will always ask for new preferences.

Did you check out the 'pref not save' link?

Thanks Fred. I refreshed FF but it did not solve the issue though it managed to stop the opening of my add on apps indicating that they were successfully installed. So this left with the two FF first run pages. I deleted my prefs.js file and then changed my home page to google. This worked out fine. Only the checking for FF as default browser remained until I un-ticked it from the settings section.

So are you all set then?
