Running firefox on a mac, all download files are pc format

When I try to download firefox from firefox, it brings up the .exe file, not the .dmg file that I need to run on a mac. All other platform specific file types download as pc types meaning I need to use inferior Safari for downloading audio files from Audible, for instance. Had this problem for 1+ years
