I have been getting frequent "unable to upgrade" errors even though Firefox says it is up-to-date. Today I got this error. I'm running Mac OSX Yosemite (10.2.2)( and Avast Internet Security for Mac OSX. I get errors when I try to connect to some financial institutions. I have logged a ticket with Avast because one of the financial institutions told me that Avast, only on Mac, is requiring new certificates which won't be implemented until 2016. My suspicion now is that the Firefox update errors I'm getting are caused by the same or a similar problem.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
