Why won't FF 30 under XP automatically clear cached web contents when it approaches maximum?

I have used FF as my default browser for YEARS and never encountered this problem before this week. Now I have a problem every few days when websites with rich image content load only partially and badly distorted. I discovered that each time, my web page content cache of 350MB is full (like, 348MB used) and if I manually clear the cache, everything returns to normal. Why isn't FF automatically clearing cache as it has done forever??!!

I see that several other people are experiencing this same problem, but nobody here seems to have a solution for it. I'm just about ready to change my default browser to Chrome (or maybe Safari!).

There is a setting.

  1. Please go to the "3bar menu" and click on "Options"
  2. Go to Advanced
  3. Go to Network
  4. Look under "Cached Web Content"
  5. The default is 350MB, please change this to what you would like it to be.

Thank you. If the setting does not change please check out: How to fix preferences that won't save

Thanks guigs2, but I tried that and it didn't help. What did the trick was the suggestion by someone else, using a different settings page that allows you to turn off automatic caching. This answer doesn't help because just increasing the cache size doesn't affect whether or not FF automatically clears the cache when it approaches full. Just increasing the cache size only solves the problem until the new limit is reached, definitely not what I am looking for.
