So my browser (FF 28) crashed this morning and when I restarted it, I was upgraded automatically to 29.0.1. And now the layout is all different. I would very much rather not get an add-on to give me the old layout options. Two major changes that now speed down my browsing: the buttons are gone from the navigation bar and/or are in new places, and the tabs are above the navigation bar. I was already able to put the tabs below the other bars by making a custom userChrome.css file, so that problem was solved. But I can't seem to figure out how to get the old buttons back.

This is how my browser looked prior to the crash:

Notice how there are separate buttons for back, forward, reload, cancel, home, and a no-script button that is conveniently located between the navigation buttons and the address bar.

Now I am clicking in the wrong places. Now, this is not much different from how the layout was after the last upgrade, but Firefox gave me the option to customize it the way I wanted it. I was able to follow the suggestions given here:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/navigation-buttons-missing?esab=a&s=restore+default+customize+button&r=5&as=s

But now there is no longer any "Restore Default Set" option; this advice seems to now be outdated. I click on the "Customize" button and the number of possible icons to add to the navigation bar is very limited. How do I get more? What am I missing? I want the full set of options like: a separate back button, a separate forward button, a separate reload button (other than the one inside the address bar), etc. So where are these other options?

It is very confusing to have the back button to the right of the no-script button rather than the left, which is what I am used to. I either have to retrain how I use Firefox (annoying when I was in the midst of using the web when the crash happened) or install an add-on I would rather not do. Is there something I could put in the userChrome.css file to make it like how it used to be? Can I fix this like how I fixed the tabs?

Many of us are using Classic Theme Restorer (Customize Australis) {web link} Restore squared tabs, appmenu, add-ons bar, small button view and more on Australis UI (Windows/MacOSX/Linux + Fx 29+).

There is still a Restore Defaults button at the bottom of the Customize palette window.

Fred: I know that is an option but I would prefer to limit the number of add-ons I use.

Cor-el: That is different. That just rolls back your customization changes to the default. I want the expanded set of buttons, separators, spaces, etc. that used to be in FF28.
