I have Thunderbird installed on two computers.

On one of the computers, emails being held in my inbox are being automatically removed after two weeks (this is not a desirable action, I am loosing important emails), but on the other computer that is configured exactly the same, emails remain in the inbox indefinitely (which is desired).

Both computers are POP and both configured to run the same email account and appear to have all of the same configurations and settings. I saw someone had posted the same problem a while ago and the reply indicated it may be that the ISP or email provider has their settings set to delete emails as per the two week window, but as I can assure you this is not the case, it is a configuration issue with one of the Thunderbird installations, otherwise both of my computers would be deleting the emails while that is not the case.

and i thought Thunderbird was supposed to be better than outlook... HMMM

i have the latest version of TB with win 10

i want to be able to send e mail without time out issues this is thanksgiving geez

I am using Thunderbird version 31.7.0 and it keeps randomly crashing when usually when I try to send an e-mail. The e-mail appears to go out, but it is not copied to my send folder. I can keep it working is I use safe mode.

I inadvertently changed the background of my Thunderbird to black with white text. I have NO idea what I did or how to get it back. I tried this: Menu app icon (3 lines) > Preferences select 'General' Scroll to 'Language & Appearance' click on 'Colours' Text = white Background = Blue uncheck - do not select 'Use System colours' 'Override the colours....' select 'Never' Click on OK

I have had Thunderbird installed on my Windows 10 computer for a long time and have experienced few difficulties, none for a year or so including no SMTP email sending difficulties using Spectrum’s mail.twc.com. I have the latest version of Thunderbird.

Nevertheless, when I sent several emails successfully and immediately tried to send another one, the send failed. I had made no email account changes at all—same setup as before.

Emails will send through web mail, but I much prefer using Thunderbird.

Here are the SMTP settings that have been in place for a long time: Description: AT&T; Server name: mail.twc.com; Port 587; User name: [my full and correct email address]; Authentication method: Normal password; and Connection security: STARTTLS.

I tried some changes a friend suggested to see what might happen—changing connection security to SSL/TLS and then to none, switching port to 465—but no improvement occurred.

This is the error notice that appears:

“Send Message Error

“Sending of the message failed. “The message could not be sent because connecting to the Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.twc.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) are correct and try again.”

I should mention that I have a Gmail account run through Thunderbird, which works fine (of course it has a different outgoing server). I also have waited a couple of hours to see if this might resolve itself, but it hasn’t done so, and I rebooted the computer, no change. If I call Spectrum, they undoubtedly will tell me it is Thunderbird’s problem.

What to do to resolve this?

Starting yesterday 1/30/2023, when I open Thunderbird, it immediately freezes after about 5 seconds after opening. The spinning hour glass immediately starts and I have to literally close out of the entire program in order to get out of it. I open Thunderbird up and it happens again. I have tried opening in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but it still freezes after 5 seconds and crashes. Is anyone else experiencing this and what can I do to correct this?

I successfully sent my last email on 26Oct21. Ever since,I cannot send email. I get the following message when I try to send: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.shaw.ca failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

I have tried everything suggested on this forum and other online help sites. One source suggested trying to ping my email server,and that failed as well. I tried temporarily reducing the TLS to 1.1,but that didn't help. I tried temporarily disabling my Windows antivirus and firewall,but that didn't work. I am at a loss on how to proceed,and am planning to take my desktop to a local computer repair shop to see if they can figure it out. Can you suggest anything that might help? Thanks very much!

Thunderbird’s connection to one of my gmail accounts failed today.

I removed the account and then tried to add it again to Thunderbird.

When logging in using a Google generated App password, I receive the following message:

"400. That’s an error. The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."

OAuth2 is in place, and I’ve carried out all other recommended checks I can find on your website. My other Gmail accounts are working fine.

Since installing Supernova, I find a huge (multiple minute) delay whenever I open a folder to a new tab or window. There was zero delay on the prior version to open a folder, so it appears to be specific to Supernova. I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned it on the forums yet, so it seems it might just be something about my particular setup. Can anyone help me diagnose what I might be doing wrong?

Hello there! Please can someone help me? On my pc, lately, when I move an email from my Thunderbird Inbox to a folder, the message does 'go' from my Inbox, but it does not re-appear in the folder. In fact, the message seems to disappear! However, the message tally count for that folder indicates that the message should be there, but it isn't visible. It's obviously been happening for a while but I don't know when it will have started. In the attached image, the folder 'Chatham, Cape Cod' shows that it should have 10 messages in it, but you'll see that the folder is empty, no messages are showing. In fact, all of the 3 folders 1) Boston, 2) Chatham, Cape Cod, and 3) Virgin Atlantic show that they have messages in them, but on opening each folder, each of those folders is empty. I should add that, on my phone or ipad, when I view my folders, all of the messages are visible. It is just on my PC that the messages are not visible. I've uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalled it, but that didn't help. And I don't know what else to do! I'd be so grateful for help as I'm not techy and, as I work mainly from my PC, it's proving to be difficult not having all of my messages visible in their folders on my PC. A few days ago, Thunderbird asked for the password to my Yahoo mail account. I've been using Thunderbird to access my Yahoo emails for a few years and I haven't changed the password, so I thought it was strange, but I entered the password. I can access my Yahoo emails through other apps without a problem. I think I may have entered the wrong password first time, but checked the password on the other apps, so I know I'm using the right one now. I'm getting the error message "Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." I've tried removing the email account and re-adding, but it still fails with to connect. Anyone have any ideas, thanks.

Every day my Thunderbird crashed when getting email. I assumed it was a corrupt email rule, annoying but not sure how to address. Incidentally a few months ago, due to another project, I had to move my Thunderbird profile from my Windows machine to my Mac and when I did the crashing stopped. That project has now finished and I've moved my profile back to my Windows machine and the problem is back. I've installed the latest 102.13.0(64 bit) version of Thunderbird, but no difference. Are there any logs that might show in a bit more detail what's going on ? The log that's shown with the "Thunderbird has crashed" message seems to be little use.

Any other suggestions as to why the mac is happy but Windows isn't ?

I have 3 accounts that are all IMAP accounts to smtp.office365.com. They have worked without issue for years.

Recently, immediately after hitting send, I get:

The message was sent successfully, but could not be copied to your Sent Folder. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.office365.com timed out. Try again? Would you like to return to the compose window.

It does not have a delay that would be long enough to have timed out. If I then wait on the message without responding at all, the message goes away as does the compose window.

I also increased the timeout but that did not address the issue.

What might I explore to further troubleshoot/correct?

Sometimes, I have seen these kinds of issues come up with updates of the software and then later resolve, but this one has been persistent and I would like to figure it out.

The emails have worked fine for years and all that are related to office365 from multiple companies and multiple email accounts are having this issue.

I am on the latest TB 32 bit version 91.4.1 running on Windows 10.

I noticed yesterday that when I tried to send a mail to myself that it did not arrive in the Inbox of either Thunderbird or that of the Inbox of the webmail of my ISP which is Proximus in Belgium. The mail is correctly copied to the sent folder where it can be viewed without a problem. There are no visible error messages displayed.

I use two identities and it is my identity, which is the default one, that has the problems. My wife’s identity-address can still mail to itself without problems. I have contacted a few regular recipients and they mention that the last mail from my address was around 10 days ago. Mails destined for them have been sent since then but have not reached their destination …

I have tried the Troubleshoot mode and clearing the cache without success in sending a mail to the same default identity-sending address.

I use Bitdefender Total security and the firewall allows access to thunderbird.exe regularly. Details of the Thunderbird release, the SMTP server and add-ons are shown in the screen prints attached.

Other suggestions ?

I upgraded to 115.3.1 from 102.15.1 this week. I do not understand the large increase in version number, but I have not done any searches. I have a number of complains with this new version.

1) I want to move one message to a Local Folder, and I get the message at the bottom "nn messages moved from Inbox to Tr.ash". The one message I wanted to move remains in the Inbox, and I have to move it again. When I try to move them again, the folder displayed is NOT the one into which I had just tried to save. I have no idea if any messages were moved from Inbox to Trash, and I have no idea how I would find them.

2) The font size in the window is smaller than it was with 102, and there is blank space on the right. Is there a way to increase the font size?

3) I read one mail message and I process it (delete it or save it in a Local Folder). Most of the time, the next message in the Inbox is opened. But sometimes the window advances to a message further down in the Inbox, and I then have to go back into the Inbox to access then next message I was planning on reading.

A man who i used to be able to hire to help me with computer problems, added Thunderbird to my computer - over a decade ago. He's no longer available for hire and i am so frustrated with problems with Thunderbird, i'm about to quit and revert to using Gmail directly. I MUCH prefer Thunderbird, but it crashes often. And recently many 1000's of emails disappeared and when i checked my gmail account directly to see if they're all gone from there, too - i can't figure that out. I've tried reading some of the helpful answers in the support community, but don't get very far - i don't understand computer vocabulary. And yet i'm on line, using emails many hours every day, for volunteer work, and can't keep up with that. It's kind of like my dependency on my car, but i can't fix my car problems, either. I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price (i'm on a fixed income) for help, if anyone can recommend. The few local computer professionals i've contacted locally, don't use Thunderbird.

I've tried everything, including setting it to filter an empty folder instead of my inbox. But it still defaults back to filtering the inbox every time it restarts. I'm trying to stop filtering to debug why my email keeps hanging. I have 800 filters so I don't want to uncheck 800 boxes. There should be an option to turn off filtering temporarily, or to uncheck all the boxes at once.

Thunderbird: attachments not opening (No yellow accept permission bar) since update

Since latest update:

If I receive an Excel spreadsheet (either .xls or .xlsx) or a Word document (.docx) as an attachment in Thunderbird it will only open in Read Only mode. There is no way to give permission to open/view. I can save it & then open and it is fine but I cannot simply open the attachment directly without it being in Read only mode. I cannot uncheck the Properties "Read Only" check box because it is greyed out.

Similar problem applies to jpegs where you can't rotate the opened attachment (ie this opens in a kind of non-editing mode too)

The yellow security "Permission" bar that one clicked to "accept/view" is no longer appearing. (Sorry I don't know what to call this function or how to properly describe it)

Something seems to be preventing this yellow bar showing so I cannot click to "give permission to edit" or "accept the content" or whatever the appropriate permission/acceptance is

Is this a config issue ?

This problem does not occur if opening from webmail or Windows Live Mail, it applies only on Thunderbird.

Same issue on Windows 7 (yes I know it is not supported) and Windows 10. I have Thunderbird 91.9.0 (release update channel) on both (Two laptops).

I have several email accounts and the issue occurs with any email account and whether POP3 or IMAP. Also with Word/Excel/jpeg attachments to emails stored in Local Folders which used to open fine.

This problem has only arisen following latest update (91.9.0).

I have tried opening in Troubleshoot (Safe) Mode with add-ons disabled and the problem still exists.

Can anyone tell me what to do about this please ? How can I make Thunderbird allow direct opening of an attachment in normal editing mode as it used to do ? How do I get the yellow bar back please ?

What, if anything, do I change in config editor to make the yellow bar reappear ?

Would appreciate help please as this is giving me a major headache & upset
