Can you mention the HTML editor you use so we could have a look.

You posted using Firefox Beta. Is the problem in Firefox 24 (released Sept. 17th) or in the latest beta of Firefox 25? Since Fx25 is close to release, any new bug needs to be squashed ASAP.

I first experienced the problem in Firefox 24, but only after the update; yesterday, prior to the update, there was no issue with this. I then upgraded to Firefox Beta hoping the issue would disappear - it didn't. The issue is present in both versions.

About the HTML editor: is in the admin side of aspdotnetstorefront shopping cart software. It is used when entering new products for sale in the database.

If the issue wasn't caused by the update from Firefox 23.0.1 to Firefox 24.0, do you have any guesses about what updated? Perhaps it was one of the following:

  • Extension update (many require a restart of Firefox)
  • Block list update (silent)

When you are on that page, do any new icons appear in the address bar to the left of the URL, such as a blocked plugin icon or mixed content block icon?

Always worth trying:

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Bypass Firefox's Cache

Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.

Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Have been out of town, or would have replied sooner: nothing you suggested clears the issue; html editor does not work. This was experienced by me in Firefox 24 after an unknown update occurred. I then switched to 25 beta in the hopes the problem would disappear, which it did not. It's worth noting that a few Firefox versions back the same issues appeared - I never found a work around for it and switched to Google Chrome so I could continue to use our asp storefront program as designed. I switched back to Firefox, which initially worked fine, because Google downloaded a security update that removes the ability to view a frame within a frame, which is how the backend of an asp storefront displays products, phone orders, etc.

Is this a rich text editor or a simple text editor like used on this forum?

Does anything come up or is the page empty?

Did toy check the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+K) for errors?

Maybe attaching a screenshot helps to see what is happening.

I am attaching three files - a screenshot showing the HTML code where there should be an html editor and formatted text and two files with the errors that are shown when using ctrl-shift-k on the page. Normally, there would be an HTML editor above the html code that is shown - it had control for fonts, colors, etc. That is now gone and the html code for the product appears. The file that is attached shows an existing product on our website - if I were trying to enter a new product the screen would be the same but without the html text already there. I believe it was a Rich Text editor.

I don't think the style warnings (blue icon in the web console) can explain a failure to render HTML as HTML.

Is the platform a commercial product that might have a demo available online?

more options

The platform is aspdotnetstorefront ML 8.

By following this link: http://manual.aspdotnetstorefront.com/p-296-product-attributes.aspx

You will go to an instruction 'manual' for the ML8 software. The link I provided will go directly to the page that shows how to enter products. The issue I am describing occurs when you click on the description tab - when you scroll down the instruction page, you'll see the html editor that is no longer showing in the backend of my storefront.

I cannot find an online demo for the software.

To test which version is the last that worked with the editor, could you try the stand-alone "portable" versions of Firefox? For example, you can save/unpack them into subfolders in your Downloads folder. These do not run simultaneously with (real) Firefox, so you'll have to test them sequentially:

Firefox 24 portable build: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%2024.0/

Firefox 23 portable build: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%2023.0.1/

Firefox 22 portable build: http://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Ed./Mozilla%20Firefox%2C%20Portable%20Edition%2022.0/

Also, when viewing the Web Console or Browser Console, you can turn off the CSS warnings to declutter the list and more easily spot major errors.
