While trying to files from ZTE Open, I browsed to a web page with a file upload form. When I selected the file input, the input behaved as a text input and the on screen keyboard appeared.

We are working to make Firefox OS better. This feature is not currently available but will be available in future updates to the device.

Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support.

Thank you feer56. Do you know if this issue is limited to the ZTE Open or is this issue also present on other FireFoxOS devices?

more options

This is limited to the version on the OS.

Great OS i am really exited about it.

Hi, i am in urgent need of this option, and camera use/activation like it works in other phones OS s , not just attach a file but activate the camera and upload a picture, any timeframe to have it fixed? thanks.

Another question, how the OS of the OS of the ZTE Open will be updated? when this option is ready?

more options

We understand that this feature is urgently needed but our developers and engineers are working hard to make this feature available. This feature will be available in future versions. I do not know when the release of the new version will be and if it will have this feature. Please be patient and I apologize for any inconvenience.

When you say "our developers and engineers" do you mean Mozilla Developers or ZTE Developers?

jezera: Mozilla and ZTE are working closely together.

I think this Os is promising but is not ready yet.

Its all Firefox OS side. Nothing to do with the ZTE I need an inexpensive phone for real comercial use , using a HTML5 JqueryMobile Framework.

i will stay away from this OS giving it time to mature.

Thanks,

Keept the great job is promising but is not mature enought for real use.

Thanks a lot .

feer56, this issue does not appear in the Firefox OS simulator, so it would appear that on the Mozilla side of things there is a fix. Is it possible to flash an image of the latest FireFoxOS onto the ZTE Open?

more options

ZTE has not released an update and unfortunately nothing can happen until ZTE releases the update.

You can read this: http://pof.eslack.org/2013/07/05/zte-open-firefoxos-phone-root-and-first-impressions/

So flashing the device can not be done "out of the box"? That doesn't sound very "Open" to me.

Thanks a lot, not interested.

I need something ready to roll, not something to do some undergroud tricks to get to the same problem with the "new" release of the Firefox OS.

We can learn some stuff from Apple IOS, upgrade it over the air.... or with itunes...

Currently there is no update for FirefoxOS that has been released to the Stable Channel. Once an update is released (all current updates that you can flash are beta or alpha versions and very unstable) it is up to the phone manufacturer to release that update. Hopefully the ZTE Opens will be getting an update in the near future, but it hasn't even been released on Mozilla's side yet.

Are developers at Mozilla using beta versions on their devices? If so, I would like to know which devices they are using and how they are getting beta code onto their devices.

You can flash Firefox 1.1 onto certain devices, such as the Geeksphones, but not all devices can. Developers has specific builds that aren't publicly released.

Since early adopters such as myself are basically beta testers, it would be greatly appreciated if we could flash/upgrade our devices without being beholden to a manufacturer who may or may not release timely updates. I had hoped that there would be more openness and transparency in the development process.

While I'm not going to delve into a discussion on openness here, you can always purchase a geekphone, which is a development device and can be more easily flashed to pre-builds. Alternatively use the Simulator to have FirefoxOS on your desktop. There is no official or supported way to Flash other phones to 1.1 or later ATM AFAIK, but you can try a few google searches. If you brick your device in the process though remember that's part of the process.

FirefoxOS is different than other Mozilla products in that it is tied to devices, the manufacturers of which need to modify FirefoxOS to work on their specific device (Drivers, certification, etc.). this process is costly and so they aren't going to do this for nightly builds of FirefoxOS that can be freely downloaded by all users.
