Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.

(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)

  • You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article for that.

To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Also check for malware with all the below programs.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

About the crashes, try to disable hardware acceleration in firefox.

You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect.

Then perform these steps:

  • Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
  • In the Firefox options window click the Advanced tab, then select "General".
  • In the settings list, you should find the Use hardware acceleration when available checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
  • Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:

Waka_Flocka_Flame gave some good tips. I'd like to add one more.

This may not be a problem with Mozilla Firefox at all. It is quite possibly a web site (and there are several such web sites) which is attempting to get you to install some software on your computer. In all likelihood, that software is itself malware or has other undesirable side effects in any event. There are a number of trusted software programs out there which can help keep malware out of your system. Make sure you are using software from one of those trusted sites. (This veteran once discovered himself to be the victim of having installed software intended to rid his system of malware, but the software was itself malware, so you do have to be cautious.)

My current software used for this purpose includes both of the following free software products which can be used together:

Avast Free Antivirus

Spybot Search & Destroy

Having more than one antivirus program or more than one anti spyware program running at the same time can also cause problems. If you choose to do this, be sure that the programs are all targeting different types of malware and/or are doing so in different ways so that they are not likely to believe that their counterparts are also malware.

I have never tried the products which Waka_Flocka_Flame recommended, but I have read that all are very well respected and should do the job effectively.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open the crash reports page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".
