Do you have an Anti-virus software available to take the place of AVG Simple Search that was deactivated due to not being compatible with Firefox? I need to have an Anti-virus. Is AVG simple search take out the whole anti-virus software from being used?

It also mentioned that Java was going to be stopped as it was not compatible either. What should I do? Revert to what I had before the update?

Firefox has a built-in Safe Browsing component that checks against a regularly updated (on your computer) list of know malware sites:

Firefox will still use AVG to check all your downloads for viruses, even when the AVG Safe Search add-on is disabled.

The AVG Safe Search add-on is designed to alert you when you visit malicious web sites. However, Firefox already has this feature built in, so you will still be protected even without the add-on. For details, see this page: Phishing and Malware Protection

Personally, I recommend that you use Firefox's built-in protection features which are faster than AVG Safe Search. But if you would like to re-enable the Safe Search add-on, you can either wait for AVG to update it for Firefox 6, or you can use the Add-on Compatibility Reporter to enable and test it yourself.

Try updating AVG from the System Tray icon. See the screenshot.

Not related to your question, but...

You need to update some plug-ins:

If Firefox has an Anti-virus or something that is taking care of the same things as the AVG is doing I would be willing to solely use that. Is there something that I need to do or is it already running and AVG continues to be the Anti-virus?

So in essence the note I got about disabling the AVG safe search has nothing to do with the rest of the anti-virus software and the safe search is automatically handled by the safe search provided by Firefox. So I am still covered at the same level as before If that is the case I'm fine with all

Thanks for the help

The Java Console add-on is what was disabled. Basically, only Java developers have a need for that particular add-on.

Firefox SIX??? I thought Firefox was trying to up-grade to 12, but saying AVG is incompatible add-on.

Do I accept what I am reading here, and disable AVG? What if Malware has hijacked Firefox?

AVG still protects me magically though the firefox add-on is disabled, every week or so its like "AVG HAS PROTECTED YOU! CAN HAS COOKIE?"

20rdj04 -- AVG Safe Search was compatible with FF 11 and then when FF 12 came out, it's no longer compatible and was disabled automatically by Firefox.

DO NOT disable AVG as it'll continue to protect your PC without the Safe Search plug-in. The plug-in affects Firefox only, not your PC.

As long as you have AVG function properly and it said you are PROTECTED, you do not have to worry about the AVG Safe Search plug-in. And AVG is probably working on a new version which will enable the Safe Search plug-in to work again. It's a cycle between AVG and Firefox which I suspect will continue as new versions of Firefox rolls out.

And if you have further questions, you might want to start a NEW question from now on as this thread is 8 months old and might not get the proper attention anymore.

20rdj04 -- AVG has just released a new version today (2012.0.2169). If you updated to that version, AVG Safe Search will be enabled by Firefox automatically again.
