bold text People, For the past two months or more, each time I go online using Mozilla Firefox 3.6.6, after anywhere from two to five minutes or longer my entire computer freezes and must be rebooted. I have taken the computer into a reputable service facility four times. They have thoroughly checked every piece of hardware as well as completely checked for all forms of virus, malware, spyware and software conflict. I have Windows XP Pro and am using an Asus A8V-VM SE Motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor running at 2194.8Mhz with 2048MBytes of Kingston DDR Ram at 129.1Mhz at 2.5V. I am also using a NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS PCI Video card running at 567Mhz with 512MBytes of Ram. I also use a Ralink RT7x USB WiFi Adapter to gain access to to the internet.

Hello,

There are 2 solutions: 1. Download the firefox beta 4: http://www.firefox.com/beta 2. Download an earlier version of firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

I had the same exact problem. Drove us CRAZY -- we even reinstalled Windows -- EVERYTHING... even new RAM -- all not solving the problem (though making the PC faster). I even got a brand new PC, and had the same issue.

I think I have it solved now. Not only do you need to uninstall 3.6, but after uninstalling, go into Safe Mode (by pressing F8 when rebooting and choosing Safe Mode), go to My Computer --> C drive --> Program Files and then completely delete the Mozilla Firefox folder. Then empty your Deleted Items. The reason you need to go into Safe Mode is that you need to have a DLL file deleted that Windows will not let you delete unless you are in safe mode. After that, install 3.5.16 and hopefully you should be good. I recommend you have the 3.5.16 setup file on your desktop before you do this. I have been going for 3 hours now with no freezes!!! yay!!!! All seems good now!

As soon as you open 3.5.16 for the first time, quickly go to tools / options / update and uncheck the update options or else it will just download 3.6 again and you will have the same issues all over.

I'm waiting for FF 4 to get out of beta before updating again.

Out of curiosity, do you use McAfee? I do as well and wonder if it has something to do with that.
