Show title on pinned tabs

more options

I need pinned tabs to show their title, just like normal tabs. They currently only show an icon, but apart from the fact that in my case the icons are identical to one another so I can't know which one is which without hovering them, I'm more of a text person anyway.

So, how to make pinned tabs show their title?

You could change the behavior of normal tabs to behave like pinned tabs with an extension like Tabloc.

I don't use them but I understand that pinned tabs only show icons. That difference is built into the software.

You may be able to use userchrome.css to set individual icons for each pinned tab.

That's a terrible workaround. Not only does it rely on Tabloc working correctly, it also makes these tabs not *actually* pinned anymore. I'm pretty sure, even without having tried it, that Tabloc cannot provide the same functionality as native pinned tabs, sans the missing title.

Well yeah. That's what I've got, but it's exceedingly difficult to make pinned tabs look even remotely similar to normal tabs. Sure I can increase the width, but width of normal tabs is dynamic. Also the title on pinned tabs it cut off hard, instead of fading like normal tabs.

This is why titles on pinned tabs still need a native solution, whereas a workaround with userChrome really is a temporary workaround.

The easiest way is to hold the mouse over the pin for a moment until the page title appears.

That is more likely the *hardest* way to solve this problem, realistically speaking.

Okay, you’re right, especially when there are many pinned tabs.

Another existing option is the small arrow at the right side listing all tabs, including pinned ones, with much longer title.

Note that you can use the Tab Manager button (List all tabs) at the far right to see the titles of all the tabs, including pinned tabs if browser.tabs.tabmanager.enabled = true.

If you like to tinker with software, you can change the appearance of pinned tabs using custom style rules applied to Firefox though an optional userChrome.css file. This is a community-supported (not officially supported) option, so you won't find documentation about it here on Mozilla Support.
