open tab order after using the address bar changed in FF115

Until FF114 when I opened links in new tabs from the active tab, the new tabs were always opened next to the active tab, relative to the order they were opened (first link immediately on the right, second link on the right of the second link and so on). Switching to another tab reset the context and links were opened on the right of the new active tab. However entering a new location in the address bar didn't reset the context and links were still opened relative to the order they were opened from the active tab, regardless of the location in the address bar. Let's say I visit site A and open three links, then visit site B by entering its address in the address bar without changing of tab. Opening a fourth link will open a fourth tab after the three others.
In FF115 the behavior is different. When entering a location in the address bar, the context is reset and new tabs are opened immediately on the right of the active tab, as if I had moved to another tab.
Is there a way to restore the old behavior?
I'm running FF115 on Fedora 38 in case it matters. I tried with an empty profile and without any add-ons to be sure there is nothing wrong with my profile and add-ons.

This is controlled by these two 'insert' prefs on the about:config page.
- browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent
- browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent
This is not true when the address bar is involved in FF115.
Please read again the description of the problem, the 2 knobs worked for all the cases until FF114 (and I was happy the way it was) but in FF115 it does not work when I enter a new location in the address bar. Entering a new location in the address makes firefox think I switched to another tab while it is not the case.
I don't have this issue with my distro version nor Mozilla. Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
What Desktop are you running? X11 or Wayland? Do you have the same issue in both Graphic Platforms?

I can reproduce the issue with the official FF115 binary but not with the FF114 binary.
I run mate 1.26.1 under X11, marco (the window manager) is not compatible with wayland.

I'll try with a fresh install of Fedora in a VM and with another distro if I still have the issue with Fedora.
Just to verify... You have the same issues with Firefox from Mozilla? The VM test is a good idea and also try a different desktop. Here is another OS in case you're feeling adventurous. ;-))

I just finished to test with different distros and desktops, both with firefox packaged by the distro and downloaded from mozilla website. I still have the same issue.

What I tested: open a new tab and go to mozilla.org, open 2 links in new tabs (for example "Firefox for Desktop" and "Firefox for Android") to check they open on the right in a relative order, open support.mozilla.org by entering the URL in the address bar but without changing the tab, open a link in a new tab (for example "Firefox") and observe that the new tab is opened directly on the right of the active tab instead of being opened after the 2 tabs that were opened before. Clean the profile directory and start again with another desktop or distro.
This was an intentional change in Firefox 115 to keep related tabs together (Bug 574385). You will need an extension to restore the previous behavior but most are concerned with opening tabs next to the current one.

Thanks for the info, bug opened 13 years ago (!) and it is suddenly resolved out of nowhere. Unfortunately I belong to the category of people who prefer the old behavior.
