A couple of months ago Outlook.com changed its "look." And instead of highlighting text, right clicking and and having the small MS window come up where you can click "paste," their own window came up and "paste" was not one of the options. So I had to use Ctrl v to paste.

But Outlook just added "paste" to their window. But it's not working in Firefox. But it does work in Chrome. Outlook will never address this, so what can FF do about this?

Yes, I guess they removed it because Firefox is blocking read access to the clipboard:

Did this used to work? (I'm a keyboard person so I can't really remember.) If so, perhaps they changed their scripts and didn't preserve compatibility with Firefox. I don't know whether there is a way to sneak a fix into their custom menu.

The more general workaround is to hold down the Shift key when right-clicking, so that Firefox overrides the custom site menu with its built-in context menu.

I'm getting that box about the short cut keys when I click paste. But when I press and hold the shift key, and right click, that old MS copy, paste etc. window comes up, not the new Outlook window. And I can paste it. I'd have to get used to that.

So this would be just one more thing where things are different in Outlook than the rest of the internet's interfaces.

Up until a couple of months ago, I was able to paste normally in Outlook, right click, that MS window would come up, and click paste. But Outlook changed, for the worse.

Is there a way to make toggle an about:config setting in FF to over-ride this so I wouldn't have to press/hold the shift key?

Sort of? You can set Firefox to always show its menu, which often will appear in front of rather than instead of the site's menu. I used to use this, but on some sites it really interfered, so now I just Shift+right-click when needed. If you want to give it a try:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. The moderators would like us to remind you that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste dom.event.contextmenu.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference (or click the toggle button toward the right end of the row) to switch the value from true to false

Note: if you do want to access the site's menu, tap the Alt key to peel off Firefox's menu.

That worked! I can right click, and that brings up the MS window we're all familiar with, and I can click on paste. And it works.

Thanks!
