What about the rest of your profile? Settings, bookmarks, history, passwords . . . .
If you lost personal data then it is possible that a new default-release profile folder has been created. See "Determine if Firefox has created a new profile":
You can open the about:profiles page via the location bar to check whether multiple profiles are present and what profile Firefox currently is using.
- Do NOT click any Remove button on this page.

Firefox 67 and later can use a dedicated profile for each of the Firefox update channels and will lock the profile, so it can only be used by Firefox in a specific installation folder. For Release versions this profile would be a xxxxxxxx.default-release profile, profiles used in older Firefox versions usually used a xxxxxxxx.default profile (a refresh adds a time stamp).
Me too sort of
The update deletes the custom search box (sometimes called search bar ). OK quite quick to put it back but why? FAR WORSE in one machine I have lost all my custom search engines
The tabs have turned black?
But my custom tools are still present in the menu bar, thank heavens
Once you have things set up the way you want,
Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.
Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.
If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.
Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
I'm an occasional user of 'mozbackup' but daily is way too much
Do we know why Moz think it's better for us?
Hi shoi, did you check the about:profiles page in case you are suffering from an incomplete migration in a new default-release profile? It is simplest to switch back to the earlier profile in that case.
Regarding mozbackup, that is one possible backup tool, but of course any file backup tool/service that allows selecting hidden files and folders should work.
