Could you check whether the site has a different cookie permission? When you are on the Options page, next to cookies, there is an "Exceptions" button which should show if the site is blocked even when you normally accept cookies.

The site does use a lot of third party scripts, probably related to the ads that play before the videos. Can you think of any reason that content might be blocked, for example, by an ad blocker?

thanks for quick reply, and great suggestions! exceptions is blank...nothing blocked. i did disable all my blockers/addons (i forgot to mention that...sorry) ublock ghostery adblockplus

i tried usa/vpn, no vpn, and chinese vpn (when using IE, chrome... NO vpn addon installed, so was using real ip. and vids played)

NOTE Youku site... it's responsiveness, all text, pictures work flawlessly as they do on IE, Chrome. but when you click the play button the video window spins for a few seconds (loading video) then it stops and cookie screen pops up...see attachment above.

used google translate on phone...here is the error (attached)

Thanks for the translation!

Sorry, I can't figure out how to re-create the error myself.

Does it make any difference if you try a private window? You may need to make an exception to Tracking Protection (the shield icon at the left end of the address bar).

tried private, took alot longer to load (so it seemed) and brought up site normally, loaded the blue vid youku screen, showed spinning symbol/loading, then 3-4 seconds later ...black video player screen w/ attachment in post 1.

  • tracking protection/shield stated... no tracking elements found on this page.
  • rechecked speed of loading video in Chrome (after clearing history/cookies etc), opened chrome, chose paste & go..w/ in 3-4 seconds audio and video playing... no cookie error.
  • is it ok to post the exact link i'm trying to view in firefox, that works on other browsers?

Yes, it's okay to post the link.

As far as you know, is the video loading directly into the page? In other words, there is no recording software or downloading add-on that is "in between" Firefox and the website?

i do have a firefox addon called IDM (internet download manager) and it works on other chinese sites (those videos load/play fine W/ no Cookie Error) i disabled this, exited FF/restarted same cookie error.

i have ran into 2, 3 other site though similar to Youku where the cookie error would popup as well when trying to view those sites videos. So i'd have to use google chrome/ie. and they played flawlessly.

Hmm, I think all I get are ads. Not sure that's an improvement.

The site does do something odd, which is test for connections to peer-to-peer software running on my computer (see attached screenshot).

I don't think I'm going to be able to figure this one out.

sorry i should of explained... what you should have seen is 2 ads (maybe 30 secs each) then a long ad... about a phone. the ad about the phone is a company im following (the video/ad is what i wanted to see.) BUT... i cannot even get that far, all i get is the blue youku video screen, it spins, then cookie error. so no ads/no video whatso ever when using FF.

i'm recently part of a investing group thats researching a specific chinese company, so im constantly watching videos on chinese sites..however when using firefox i often get this error, making me have to open Ie/chrome to finish my research, then if its something i like, i have to copy /paste link/S from Ie/chrome reopen tab in FF then save to my bookmarks ( i use Xmarks for FF) so it gets to be a pita having to use other browsers due to this cookie error.

i use firefox/addons/sync for all my devices... numerous pcs, tablets, phones. so switching over to IE/chrome as a daily driver really doesn't interest me. i'm a long time fan of FF.

a new link from company we are following was literally just posted by one of our research guys (see below, phone ad/ company mention is after ad).. well i clicked on it, it opened my default browser (firefox... and cookie error) so have to copy link in ff, open in chrome then watch, yes... i like it, i want to keep this info, go back to firefox save bookmark. lots of unneeded extra work.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

There is Tracking Protection that can block (wanted) content.

You can temporarily try to enable all cookies including third-party cookies to see if that works.

You need to remove existing cookies from this website.

Clear the cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache:

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> "Use custom settings for history" -> cookies: "Show cookies"

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History -> Show All History" or "View -> Sidebar -> History").

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks and history and Cookies and passwords and cache and exceptions, so be cautious. If you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of involved files.

If you revisit a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.
