When starting firefox or opening a new tab, firefox always throws popup (as shown in the picture) and no site can be reached. Uninstalling did not help, running firefox in safe-mode via cmd did not help. I am kinda short of ideas what to do.

My crash report is here: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/86d442e1-bc99-48f7-a084-3be780171114

Is there a reason you are using a Very old version of Firefox?

Update your Flash Player Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Flash Player Version: Version 27.0.0.183

I am sorry, although this confuzes me, this is apparently not the right log. Although I am most certain that as of today (14.11.2017) I had at least version 54.0 installed as is visible from this (https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/84fd516d-a934-43cc-88d1-47b6b0171114) log.

The problem started when firefox upgraded to 57.0 if this helps.

I updated my flash player, downloaded all Windows updates and updated my GPU drivers. None of the above helps I still get similar error (usually multiple of the popups from the screenshot).

Need to tell us which Firefox you are using.......

Thank you all for replying.

@FredMcD I updated my flash to latest verrsion, the problem persists.

@Pkshadow I followed your instructions. The only thing I could not do was running the DISM as it is not working in my version (Win 7) of windows (more info here https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/error-87-running-dism-online-cleanup-image/33be783f-6e3f-408b-9d0c-901cd19c14ea). I also tried to install an older version of Firefox, but the problem seems to be the same.

Is there anything else I can do?

Thank you.

Does it happen when Flash is not installed?

The breakpoint error may be avoided by disabling hardware acceleration - see this question as suggested.

Also, see this thread at Microsoft - ensure to expand the Replies section.

You can run a system scan for malware with several types of antimalware software, and uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Only when it runs fine, reinstall Flash, if you still need it.

If the issue still occurs, you can disable hardware acceleration in Flash (not Firefox) - see this support articles for more info: Adobe Flash plugin has crashed - Prevent it from happening again

Thanks for the reply.

I uninstalled Flash and ran Firefox, result is the same.

I also tried running Firefox in safe mode, which as I understand disables hardware acceleration, bc I can't disable it in settings as I can't navigate to the menu bc of the error. Running in safe mode also did not good.

I am currently running virus scan of my whole computer and I hope I find something that is interfering with Firefox.

Oh and also I tried Clean boot of my Win 7 and running System maintenance as suggested in this thread, but with no sucess.

Update: Running the scan for malware and deleting them did not help.

Another thing to note: I found an old version of Firefox on my old HDD, which belonged to one of my old Windows instalations. I tried to open that version and it ran without problems, until the updates (from ~36 to 57 I had to restart Firefox a couple of times) came to the new 57. Then it stoped working just the same (both started crashing with 57 update) as the version on the SSD, wich I was using.

Let’s get a few things clear, also to rule out any assumptions. ;)

Your topic is titled "Firefox crashes", while its description is about a breakpoint error and not being able to reach a site. You are sure it’s Firefox crashing, right?

Regardless of the wrong crash report initially, the last one still reports one for Firefox 54, whereas you wrote the issue started in 57. Your last crash report and your recent info however do list Firefox 54 (and it lists a Flash version that is no longer up to date), so

- Have you reverted to 54 and does the issue occur in both versions now (i.e. current 54), where it did not before upgrading to 57? - Are you sure you upgraded to 57 at all and if so, do you see crash reports dated from that version, and could you submit one or more? - Can you submit the most recent one as soon as a crash occurs, when Flash is/was not installed?

The thing is, it may be best to leave Flash uninstalled (not just disabled) until the issue stays away as suggested (and reinstall from here as the final step), as the crash report simply has a Flash related signature. Thinking of that, there could be some remnants of a previous Flash install causing the issue.

Can you try uninstalling Flash the usual way when Firefox and any other Mozilla software is closed, then run the uninstaller from Adobe found here? Also see the Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems article. If Firefox crashes again afterwards, please submit the new report’s ID here.

Well the error from the screenshot only occurs when starting Firefox, so i presumed it is a problem regarding it.

I sadly can't see any crash reports from 57 version (which first I installed on 14.11.2017) in Firefox. The last two as you can see from the screeshot were the ones I already posted in this thread. I am also inclined to think it has something to do with the 57 version, because of the experience with the installation from the old HDD as I described it earlier.

I tried running the uninstaller from Adobe and it finished sucessfuly, but still no luck with Firefox. I think I should start of thinking of reinstalling my Wins :) though I am still eager to hear other sugestions.

Thank you for your time..

Thank you, will try that and report results.

Regarding installing older versions, I already tried that and it did not help. As soon as it was upgraded to 57 Firefox stoped working, even if uninstalling and installing and older version.

Ok, update :)

I tried to update Firefox as FredMcD suggested and it was already up to date as is visible in the screenshot.

I also installed ESR release and it did not produce those error popups, but it did not open any sites. For example I type www.google.com in the address bar and when pressing enter, nothing happens.

Are there any other sugestions?

My first instruction changes the option to prevent Firefox from updating.

The second lets you install whatever version of Firefox you want.

I understand, but none of the above helped.

It may be obvious that the last submitted report was submitted on 11/14/2017, but actually generated months ago, hence perhaps the older Flash and Firefox versions reported. That means your top most and newer unsubmitted reports may be worth more, but you need to submit them first by clicking them.

The crash number (F1398665248) itself is, interestingly enough and according to this quote from an Adobe employee, "just the generic "Flash went away unexpectedly" signature that happens for a list of reasons." But as you don’t have Flash installed at this point, that should not be the cause of the issue. Firefox apparently does not open the reporter to submit new reports for the actual crash - it’s a crash "at Windows level", and hence Windows logs may be worth more.

Can you check the Event Viewer in Windows and see if anything points to other software for and at the time of the application error, either the one in your second post or any recent one? (I doubt it, but still...)

There is a tool to make Firefox crash intentionally for debugging purposes if that would be of any help - other contributors can help you with this.

Do you happen to have Self Protection in MalwareBytes enabled? Or perhaps mcAfee Software, or other security products with particular features enabled? (If so, disable or rather uninstall them temporarily, and reboot.) Can you think of any recent software changes to your system before the issue started occurring?
