Why Firefox says "Your connection is not secure" for previously secure websites

When Firefox was running slow, it was recommended that Firefox should be refreshed with a restart. After the restart, Firefox now labels Google, Gmail and Firefox as Insecure Connections when previously hey were completely accessible.

After checking other questions posted on Mozilla Support, I can confirm that parental controls are not on, Firefox is not being blocked by Windows Firewall, no malicious programs are on the PC and no Security programs are blocking Firefox. As there was no other use on the PC between refreshing Firefox and Firefox now saying "Your connection is not secure", I must assume that some setting has changed during the refresh to cause this.

Is there any way to change this setting or restore Firefox to its previous state?

If you have indeed done all of the steps, your PC is clean, and you have no other issues. I could recommend either: 1. Doing a recent system restore point, just to confirm that previously it worked fine. 2. Complete reinstall of Firefox 3. If your PC hasn't been restarted for a while, do that. Occasionally, with long uptimes, some issues appear (That's just how windows is) 4. Make sure you are not using public wi-fi but using your own wi-fi.

It is possible that you previously had a root certificate from your security software installed.

Try to copy cert8.db from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop to to current profile folder.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

When you use the refresh feature in Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks and history, form data, tabs) is automatically imported. The current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
