Few days ago FF began crashing when asked to make a connection to a site. Today I tried to have help using the same connection I'm now using in Chrome and it crashed again. Last thing I was able to do was taking a report, as asked, but it crashed and it's not anymore possible for me to show it. Last crash was exactly this one: asking the about:crashes... I really don't know what to do, because I have a lot of password saved on FF and I'm afraid that if I reload it they will be lost. I really hope you can help, thanks in advance, Marco

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Philipp, thanks for your answer: you made me feel like I understand something about programming going around in places I've never been in... Anyway, this is what I found Crash ID: bp-775dd1bc-50a9-4003-be07-e58482160313 Crash ID: bp-7c0d6a50-9e5b-4792-a24a-a6f452160313 Crash ID: bp-555576f6-86a7-4131-85b8-67a592160310 Crash ID: bp-bd3b4030-a007-4164-821c-daae72160310 Crash ID: bp-58afbdbc-41b0-4b5c-a1c4-7b76a2160307 The strange thing is that the dates are the first two 3/13/2016, the second two 3/10 and the last 3/7, while I had a lot of crashes today too and after those dates... I wasn't able to do what you asked here 4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window. but I found another way to look at them and those really look like the last ones... Thanks once more, have a great day (I like much better FF than Chrome, I want to go back there) Marco

thank you for following up. can you please try updating your system's graphics driver and see if this resolves the crashes? either use intel's automatic updater for that task or manually download and run https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24971/Intel-HD-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-64-bit which should be the right driver for your configuration...

I did what you asked for Philipp. I run that exe, it says it's done... But what? What do I have to do now? Thanks again Marco

I tried again to go to Google Maps, it crashed again...

is firefox still continue crashing after that update?

edit: would you manage to get a recent crash report out of about:crashes now?

it didn't find any necessary update. Yes, it crashed again, just looking for Google maps. I noted one thing, I don't know if useful. Once I ask to go somewhere and it crashes, there is no way I can go back there...

OK, I'll try now to go finding that report... I send it to FF anyway when asked restarting it...

this is what I found for today's crash:

Crash ID: bp-d101cc6b-133b-46ea-b136-c920a2160406

hm, this still looks like a crash with the old driver though, so that installer may not have worked properly (or you'd need to reboot your system once).

otherwise you could try to disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

OK Philipp, I have to go doing some errands now so I can restart the PC: will I find you once restarted and a little later on the day? Just to be sure I can find a solution (albeit I have to tell you I already tried, couple of days ago, to restart the PC, but nothing changed...). Thanks, as soon as you answer I'll restart and leave for a while. Ciao Marco

Hi Philipp, just back home. I restarted the PC. I tried again to get in Google maps, no way, FF crashes. It's getting really hard to work with it, unfortunately... Let me know, please, what else I can do tomorrow morning. Have a good night or day or whatever, wherever you are. Thanks you, take care Marco

Any news for my problem? Thanks

Marco

no real news, but since the graphics driver update didn't appear to have worked the first time you might try the alternative method (intel's automatic driver utility vs. manual download)... if you continue to get crashes after trying to perform various troubleshooting steps, it would be helpful if you can provide any newly generated crash report ids.

i've also filed a bug report about this crash, but have not heard back yet from any developers. getting bugs fixed might reuire a bit of time. you might follow along there as well in case you are interested: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1262427

Thank you Philipp. Let's hope something news arrives from that people, I hate not using FF. I mean, I still use it, but sometime I go somewhere it doesn't like and it crashes, leaving me out of that link forever! Thanks for your help, anyway. I'm sure you from FF will find a solution. Have a good night! Marco
