Sync: Don't recognise the 'device names' under the 'sync' tab on 'preferences'?
When I go to the 'sync' tab under 'preferences' on firefox, I notice that the 'device name' provided looks unusual. On my imac it says something like 'pc7' and on my macbook something like 'pc3'. I don't know where either of these names come from and have tried removing them, but they're back again the next time I open preferences. I want to be sure that I'm not syncing inadvertently to any other device than my two macs. Does anyone have any ideas about where these names come from and how I can change them? Many thanks in advance for your advice.

It is possible to change the names. On each computer you would like to change the name do the following:
- Open up a new Firefox browser window
- Click on the menu button in the top right corner of the window
- Click on the name of the account that appears attached with the sync icon at the bottom of the menu that opens up
- about:preferences#sync will open up. Under the check boxes there is a space to type in the name next to "Device"
- There change the name with the cursor
After changing each of them, if these other names continue to appear, you can disconnect them by changing the password and reattaching each of the computers to the account.
Thank you, that's very helpful.
