I am a senior citizen and not very tech savey. I am using a Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7. I do not have any crashes if I use Safe Mode. Nor, does it crash if I use Explorer or Chrome Browsers. I also have verified that my extensions and plugins are up to date.

Can anyone please tell me, in simple steps how to stop these crashes.

Thank you.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.

Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.

(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)

Four of those crashes appear to be caused by Norton Intrusion Protection and the 5th by a Norton Toolbar extension of Firefox which looks to be somewhat old - as the version number is 2014.7.12.14 .

Update Norton and see if that eliminates your crashes.

The first five of your reports indicated "shutdownhang" which usually indicates that after you exited Firefox, it did not finish unloading and cleaning up in the allowed time frame, so Firefox recorded information about the problem and displayed the crash reporter.

Hopefully the-edmeister's suggestion will resolve the issue but, if not, can you confirm that the problem only appears after you close Firefox? If so, future releases should reduce the number of reports like that and give you some relief from those dialogs.

I can be on a live website and it will crash. its not just when I exit Firefox.

I just spoke to a Norton Customer rep. and they confirmed that my Norton Security Suite is completely up to date ( I have automatic updates).

They told me to turn off the Norton Toolbar and try it for 24 hours, to see if it crashes or not. I am then to call them back with the results. Thanks
