Are published links private unless the remixer shares the link?

I'm hoping to have students use X-ray Goggles to remix a news article. I've asked them to write their own personal "good news" articles, which I'm planning on having them remix into an existing article from an online news source. However, if these pieces are personal, I don't want them accessible to everyone on the Internet. Do the remixed pages really get "published" to the web after students hit "Publish"? Or, are the links only made public if they choose to share them?

Thank you for your reply. However, when I go into "Search" on the Webmaker homepage, I can find articles I've posted by searching for my username. Is there any way to keep the articles even more discreet?

I'm still not sure my district is going to be okay with student-created content on the web. I'll have to have a conversation with administration. Thank you.
