No problems using Usage app initially, and no error message on Notification screen. This message started appearing following updating OS to lastest version. Phone works fine, so clearly SIM is recognised by device and working. I have noted one othef report of this on another forum.

Thank you for contacting Mozilla. I understand that you are having problems with using the Usage application after an upgrade on the ZTE Open C.

Have you tried to take the battery and SIM card out for 15 seconds then reinserting them back in and check to see if the issue is still preset. If not, that's great. If the issue is still present after a soft reset, please read the following:

To know more about the issue to better assist you, we would need the following information.

  • What is the OS version found in the Device Information page? Please visit this link if you need help finding the Build ID of your phone.
  • Where did you get this update and when (date and time if possible)?
  • Who is your current cell phone carrier?
  • How often do you encounter this issue?

You can also try a hard reset on your device to see if it helps.

Warning: Resetting your phone will delete all data stored on the device, including apps, calendar data, email accounts, and settings.

To reset the device, follow these instructions:

  1. Open the Settings App (small) Settings application.
  2. Tap on the Device Information button.
  3. Tap on the More Information button.
  4. Tap on the Reset phone button.
  5. Tap OK to reset your device.

Please report back to us on the results of this.

Thanks for the quick response. I tried a soft reset but it did not solve the problem.

Details requested are: Phone model: ZTE Open C (from Ebay UK) Software: FFOS_EU_EBAY_OPENCV1.0.0B06 OS version: 1.3.0.0 Carrier: O2 (UK)

Update obtained on 3rd Sept using the Software Update app that came preinstalled on the phone. I think the phone came with OS1.1 preinstalled.

This problem seems to have happenned following updating the software.

Please note that I am able to make calls, send and receive SMS and MMS and use data as previously, so SIM card is recognised by the phone for these purposes.

Also, when I open the Usage app I get the same error message as on the Notification screen (No SIM inserted).

Hope this is enough.

If I have to do a hard reset, can I back up data somewhere?

I'm sorry that you are having problems with the Usage App in your Firefox OS device.

Since this appears to be an issue specific to this device, I would suggest contacting ZTE directly for support on this issue. The manufacturer is better able to investigate these type of issues, since they modify the Firefox OS builds specifically for each device.

As for how to backup/restore the information in your phone, you can do so with a script written by Naoki, called "backup_restore_profile.sh":
