My phone is using lots of data even at night when I'm asleep. My usage report says I have only used 167mb but AT&T says I have used almost 3gb. So I turned off the data on the phone and it stopped. My next test is the mail app. I have noticed when it checks for my mail at gmail it hangs and just keeps on spinning. I have to reboot the phone to get it to stop. So maybe the mail app is chewing through my data when it gets hung up.. Any ideas?? I love the phone just wish it would not use 30mb an hour.

Thanks for your help.

Hi stateplane, I noticed this as well when doing testing this weekend. I noticed that I had to close some of the apps to use less battery. I do not know about data because I do not have a SIM card in my ZTE C, however try to close the app when you are done. Tap on the home button and hit the x in the top left of each app.

As for the syncing email app tap on the three horizontal line and click on the gear under the account to open account settings. Change the option "Check for new messages" to Manually. This way each time you open the app the update will only use data when you manually sync.

Thanks guigs2! I did not know you had to close apps in the background on firefox os. I tested this last night and closed all my running apps like you said by holding down the home button and closing the apps by hitting the x in the top left corner. Then I turned off my wifi and turned on my data H with AT&T. I let it run all night 8 hours and then waited until 8:30 tonight to see what AT&T posted. I used a little data during the the day to make sure I would see when AT&T posted the usage data. It worked great I used no data that night. So it must have been a running app that ran up my data. I can't say for sure which app is the culprit but it may be Grooveshark. Great app but close it when you are done with it! Firefox OS needs to have a way to see data usage of apps running in the background.

Also by changing my email to manual it works great! Thanks again!!

For reference, I filed a bug on this after asking the Gaia team: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1013373

stateplane, we actually do track data usage under the hood, there just is no UI for it. I wrote some stuff at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1013373#c2 which if you know how to use adb/want to learn how to use adb at https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/Firefox_OS/Debugging/Installing_ADB I think you can probably retrieve. I am not sure about the ramifications of locking/unlocking on all of this; it is possible you might not be able to access the files, in which case I'm not sure what to do.
