So, in v 57 +, there is NO MORE ADDING a toolbar, maybe other than a person that programs "ADD-ONS"?

No feature AND no add-ons can replace it. Why do you need another toolbar? Is it to have more buttons visible at the same time rather than having to open a list to see them?

ANY OTHER "GOOD" Options the developers are taking away from us we should know about?

Yes. You'll see anguished posts around the web about add-ons that will stop working and can't be replaced.

Have not looked at other browsers as i "LOVED" Firefox as before Firefox I used Netscape? I guess Firefox appears to be stripping features instead of adding them?

Some features are being sacrificed for security and performance reasons. Some decisions might be aesthetic. But support volunteers are not involved in the process.

This add-on will stop working when Firefox 57 arrives in November 2017 and Mozilla drops support for XUL / XPCOM / legacy add-ons. It should still work on Firefox 52 ESR until ESR moves to Firefox 59 ESR in 2018 (~Q2).

It's up to the program writers to keep their software compatible with the upcoming Firefox.

Firefox dropped the Add-on bar a long time ago -- in Firefox 29. Yes, many people have so many icons that they want another bar instead of relying on an "overflow" list that drops down from the main toolbar. That led to extensions which bring back the Add-on bar (some of which still work). Unfortunately, I do not think an Add-on bar will be coming back as a built-in feature.

The Firefox was an "ADD TOOLBAR" on the VIEW-CUSTOMIZE-ADDITIOAL TOOLS. Are talking about the samw thing? You refer it to "ADD-ON". I think of add-on as something on the add-on site by users. In the past, since the beginning of Firefox, ADD-ONS and ADD TOOLBAR were not the same. Recap: All we have now we can use is" TITLE BOOKMARKS TABS SEARCH/URL optional--- MORE BOOKMARKS

and that is IT?? One reason I have used Firefox since its beginning is, IE and Chrome is not really "customize-able" and every thing is HIDDEN, requiring us "more technical users NOT TO HAVE TO SEARCH FOR COMMANDS. HOW MAKES THESE DECISIONS FOR US? IS FIREFOX going to the Chrome, IE, Microsoft: BLANK PAGE LOOK?? or as Microsoft calls "THE CLEAN PAGE LOOK". We techies, like the CLUTTER LOOK.

November 2017? v57? It is gone now with v54? So, If I go back to v what? will I find the option of "ADD TOOLBAR"? I SAVED MY OLD VERSIONS FOR SUCH AN OCCASIONS. THX

So in Firefox 1-3, there was a "Status Bar" and in Firefox 4-28 there was an "Add-on bar".

Those versions also let you create your own custom toolbar(s) from scratch.

That is all gone now. But you can use an add-on for that in Firefox 29-56. Which add-ons are compatible with Firefox 54? According others posting in this thread, at least Classic Theme Restorer.

Starting in Firefox 57, add-ons can no longer do those kinds of large scale customizations of the toolbar area.

Hopefully that clears it all up.

THANKS for your time and info

Note that there is still the addon-bar and the status-bar present in the DOM. Only all items have a height:0 , so you do not see them.

That's interesting! However, the native add-on bar doesn't seem to accept any buttons being dropped on it (in Fx54 or in Nightly), so there must be something else missing besides height...

The addons-bar has class="customization-target", so it should accept toolbar buttons.

I tested it with a rather clean profile and was able to drag buttons to this toolbar.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that you need this binding rule in userChrome.css:

@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

#addon-bar {-moz-binding: url("chrome://browser/content/customizableui/toolbar.xml#toolbar")!important; height:26px !important;}
