About 2 weeks ago I started getting a pop up error box in Windows Vista every time I click on an external link to a web site. It is fine when I am browsing on the web but if someone emails me a link or sends it via instant message and I click on it I get an error popping up telling me that "Windows cannot find 'http://whateverthelinkwas.com' Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again." The dumb part is that then FF opens up and the web site opens perfectly fine. It is just the annoying error pop up that I want to get rid of.

I already searched around and found a solution where someone suggested deleting the ddeexec entry in the registry for all the HTTP, HTTPS, FirefoxHTTP and FirefoxURL registry entries and I did that and it made no difference (and those entries came back exactly the same as before). The only way it works is if I make IE my default browser (oh please don't make me go back).

I too found many links where this is blamed on Firefox. Thing is, Firefox has been my default browser for quite some time and this just started. So what happened? I have to be able to open links from email so if something isn't found quickly to remedy this, I'll have to switch to IE 9 for my default, and that is not going to make me very happy so come on Firefox. Help us out!
